The hourglass room

I sat in my son’s room the other day staring at an hourglass that he got from his grandma’s house. Such a seemingly simple concept, in this moment, became ten minutes of deep introspection.

How did I get here.

The thoughts began to fly in, out and around my head. I thought about just the idea of measuring time and how it became important. Then I thought about who outside of our human existence manages this thing called time, which we pretty much made up in an effort to have something rational that we can use to track our days.
